St. Paul’s, Lutheran South Unity win in annual basketball tourney

St. Paul’s claimed the boys title, and Lutheran South Unity won the girls championship in the annual Lutheran School Athletic Association's basketball tournament at Concordia Lutheran High School over the weekend of January 29-30. Sub Beth 300x225 The boys championship game featured St. Paul’s and Holy Cross, both undefeated in league play. Blake Hoffman scored 12 points to lead St. Paul’s to a 48-33 win. Jet Gore had 12 points for Holy Cross.In the girls championship, Lutheran South Unity earned its second straight championship with a 34-25 victory over Suburban Bethlehem. Tiana Poindexter and DeJour Young each scored 12 points for Lutheran South Unity, while Elizabeth Schaefer led Suburban Bethlehem with nine points.In the boys consolation game for third place, Emmanuel-St. Michael topped St. Peter's, 41-36. Andrew Brown led Emmanuel-St. Michael with 21 points. The top scorer for St. Peter's was Ross Webb with 11 points.In earlier games in the boys bracket, St. Paul’s topped St. Peter’s, 45-30, and Holy Cross defeated Emmanuel-St. Michael, 47-28.In the girls consolation game, Emmanuel-St. Michael beat Central, 29-25. Rachael Kammeyer led ESM with 13 points, and Cierra Germann paced Central with eight.In the first round of the girls bracket, Suburban Bethlehem beat Central, 27-16, while Lutheran South Unity edged Emmanuel-St. Michael in overtime, 41-39. The association also provides competition for boys in fifth through eighth grade in football, soccer, wrestling, and track. Girls also compete in volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, and track.
