‘Trunk or Treats’ a big success for Central Lutheran

Central Lutheran School collected more than 715 pounds of canned food for the New Haven Food Bank during the second “Trunk or Treats” event on Friday, October 29.Central Lutheran initiated Trunk or Treats in 2009 to provide a fun and safe place for area families to trick or treat. CLS families decorate the trunks of their vehicles based on a theme, and then families tour the parking lot collecting treats from each decorated trunk. The New Haven Fire Department sent out two ladder trucks to light up the parking lot, and the New Haven Police Department also dispatched three cars to participate in the event. Some of the other creative themes included “Candyland,” “Comets Zamboni,” “Grease Lightning,” and a frog using its tongue to catch a fly.A school-wide campaign to collect candy for the event began in early October. Mary Potter's second grade class earned a pizza party for collecting the most candy. The school collected more than 527 pounds of candy, but that supply was depleted within the first hour of Trunk or Treats, and more candy had to be purchased.A special thank you Thrivent - Summit Financial Group for sponsoring the big prize and extra candy. Also, thank you to the CLS Scrip program and Emanuel Lutheran Church for the gift-basket prizes.
